Merry Christmas!

Lotsa fun here in the Davis household! This was the first Christmas where Tommy started to "get" the holiday, and it was fun listening to him wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and point out all the "Merry Christmas tree"s and "Merry Christmas lights" around town. It might take a week or two to break him from the habit of saying it, but it's so adorable!

About a week ago we received a little snowfall, which was very beautiful and luckily didn't cause many problems on the roads.

For Christmas Eve we went over to Nanna and Papa's house for presents and dinner. They had the house beautifully decorated (as always) and we had a great time eating together and playing with their new X-Box Kinnect system!

After we got back from Nanna and Papa's, the boys went to bed and Logan and I set out the presents (which have been in my closet since little hands have a hard time keeping away from them!)

Logan worked Christmas Eve night, which was luckily very quiet, so we planned a nice breakfast for when he got home. I made European Pancakes (crepes) on Christmas Eve, and the next morning we heated them up and had a delicious meal with cut up fruits, whipped cream, and nutella. The boys all enjoyed it!

We then moved into the living room, where the boys opened their presents! It was a lot of fun. This year Tommy received Mr. Potato Head from Santa, and Jack got a toy drum. (They also received toddler beds, but they weren't as excited about those. Pictures coming soon!)

While Logan was sleeping (recovering from his night shift) the boys and I went to Nanna and Papa's for the afternoon, and had fun watching Toy Story 3 and eating lots of cookies and fudge. For dinner we went to our friends the Graves' house for a delicious Christmas ham with the Coopers and DeSpains. We had 7 kids all together, and it was fun seeing them play and interact.

The boys actually did very well today, and didn't have too many meltdowns! I enjoyed watching them enjoy the Christmas holiday, and as we were putting them to bed Tommy sang "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" and "Jingle Bells" with me and Logan. So adorable! I love Christmas. Such a great time with family :-)

In closing, here is a picture of my "Onion Goggles" that Logan got for me (because I cry like my favorite pet died every time I cut onions), along with the Christmas sweater vest he made me purchase from Goodwill a couple months ago. Enjoy!

Sorry there's no photo of the tree "finished." Honestly, it looks a little wimpy right now (I ended up taking the ornaments off for the safety of everyone involved), but I'll take a photo on Christmas day when it has presents under the tree and everything :-)

Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Out here in ol' Virginny we had a tasty good time at Nanna and Papa's new house. We're so glad they moved when they did, because there really wasn't space at their old house or our current house for everybody and the food. Here's some pictures from the feast:

I was historian, so sorry! No photos. I look pretty much the same. No obvious baby bump yet...although after I eat it sticks out a little bit. I'll post a picture when there's something to show!

Better People

I haven't posted in a long time, so I feel like I should, but...I have no pictures! While my sons are still adorable, and growing up way too fast, I haven't been very active with our camera, so their lives remain digitally undocumented.

This month has been a transition, because Logan has finally switched over to his "permanent" shift at work (this was originally going to happen in August, then October, then late October, then November 1st). We've been very excited about this change because it gives us a SCHEDULE! Now when someone asks if Logan and I are available on some Thursday night several weeks from now, I can say with much more authority "Yes!!" (or no). Logan is now working night shifts, which is much better than it sounds. He goes to work after the boys go to bed, and gets home shortly after they wake up. He says good morning to them, talks a bit about his night, and then goes to sleep for a few hours while the kids and I start our day. Luckily he sleeps like a rock, so the noise in the front room doesn't bother him. He usually gets up around 3, so he still gets to play with the boys and participate in other activities (he's currently helping to coach the SVU wrestling team). It seems like he has a lot more days off, and his schedule is now such that he gets a three day weekend every other week!

I told a friend of mind a few months ago that I was looking forward to this schedule change because it would make us "better people." What I meant was that we could have a schedule, and set some good habits in place that we've been lax on the past few years. So far, so good--the boys now have a very predictable bed time, and they're getting really good at going to sleep! They're usually asleep by 7:30, so I almost don't know what to do with myself after Logan goes to work. Plus I am much better at cleaning the kitchen (it's some weird psychological thing about wanting Logan to see that it actually can be clean, so I do it right before I go to bed and he gets home before it looks like a disaster area again). Almost three whole weeks, and still going strong.

Anywhoo, that's been the biggest event this month. Aside from helping Nanna and Papa move, which was an adventure, but I'll save that for another time.

Halloween!! (Almost)

This week has been full of "Halloween-y" activities! On Tuesday we found some pumpkins at the local Food Lion (couldn't quite find a local pumpkin patch...better luck next year!), and Wednesday we carved them up. Thursday we made sugar cookies using the Halloween cookie cutters Grandma Rae Rae sent us (so cute!). Today was the "Halloween Spooktacular" in downtown Buena Vista and Lexington, so we got the kids all dressed up and took them to the local businesses for some spoils. Logan was helping to direct traffic in Lexington, and the boys were very excited to see him while we were out and about! Carolena went with us to Lexington, and Nanna and Papa joined us in Buena Vista.

Buena Vista is having trick or treating tomorrow (Saturday), but I haven't decided if I'm going to take the boys out or not. After all, they aren't really going to eat most of what they collected today...(since Logan and I already did)....guess we'll see!

Temple Trip!

Today was Stake Temple day, and our stake presidency challenged the entire stake to attend, so it was packed! The boys and I went up with Nanna and Papa, and we traded off kid watching during the day. It was a long day (and not exactly easy to amuse children on temple grounds!) but it was great to be there!

Happy Birthday to Tommy!

Tommy Turns 3!!

I can't believe my little boy is 3 years old! It's insane. His birthday was on Saturday, but since we had so much going on (homecoming, Mountain Day, work [Logan], and Stake Conference) we decided to celebrate it on Sunday instead. I've started a little tradition of putting streamers over the boys doorway on their birthday, and they love it! As soon as Tommy walked out of his room, he knew it was a "Happy Birthday" day! He helped his daddy ice his cake, and loved his Toy Story-themed party and presents. The most amazing part of the day to me was when I lit the candle on the cake. I thought for sure he'd want to blow it out immediately, but he waited until we finished singing the song, and then, without anyone prompting him, he blew out his candle! He's so grown up (**sniff**)!

This weekend was also the Mountain Day festival, and Mom and I had a great time taking the kids around to the different booths downtown, eating treats and having fun! It's nice that it falls near Tommy's birthday every year.
