Tommy has figured out how to open doors. And he knows how to crawl out of his crib. And his port-a-crib. And he doesn't particularly want to take naps during the day.
Does anyone else see a problem with this?
Once we realized he could get out of his crib (more like "fall out") we decided to convert his crib to a toddler bed (which it is designed to do) to lessen the possibility of him getting hurt. He really likes it, and has found that jumping on the bed is very fun. He's pretty good about staying in bed all night--he usually sleeps in until at least 7:15am, and occasionally until 8am--but he does not like taking naps. So, we're working on some alternative tactics of persuasion to try to keep him from getting cranky during the day.
He's growing up so much! He asks for things by name now (especially snacks) and he's decided that Lion King is the greatest thing since...well, ever. I think he could watch it all day with barely any breaks. We try to get him out, though, and not over-do it. He's getting more fond of Tarzan, and occasionally Jungle Book, but Lion King is still the front runner. All that music, plus colorful animals! A real winner.
Things are moving along this summer. It feels like time is slipping by way too quickly. I'll be 32 weeks along this Friday; That's kinda freaking me out. Jack is still incredibly active, but I think it's getting snug in there because he's started moving differently lately. It's still weird to think that we'll have another little guy running around soon!

Cute! Its a hard stadge when they start to be able to open doors and not take naps. I got the child locks for the doors and it keeps my kids in their room at least. They usually play with it for a few weeks then start going to sleep, I have found my kids sleeping on the floor and in closets, they eventually make it to the bed. If he is done doing nap time try instigating quiet time, give him a whole bunch of books and make him stay in his room. It can be a bit of work at first because he will fight but stick with it. you will be very glad you did! Its very helpful to have that once the baby is born!
ReplyDeleteI agree with T, Sarah used to climb underneath her bed and then conk out and the closet was a tight fit, but she still managed. Sarah never really took naps so we had 'quiet' time. I'd give her a melatonin with lunch and then she'd watch blues clues and then she had to be 'quiet' for one hour in her room. She listened to tapes and played quietly and then could come out when her 'quiet' time was over. if we got lucky she fell asleep and got in a nap, if not she still had time where she had to be calmer. the door thingy's never really worked well with us, Sarah found ways around them (children are devious:) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWe also have door knob covers on the handles. Very effective. That way, even if they don't take a nap, at least you get alone time, and they get quiet/nap time. Ethnie doesn't even fight it anymore. I love that time of the day now. :)
