A Short Snippit

Tommy, after getting caught coloring on the carpet:

"Trouble? What? Mommy, what are you talking about?"

Out 'n About

Logan and I decided last Monday that we needed to get out of the house, so we decided to take the boys to Lake Robertson outside of Lexington. Amusingly, the boys both fell asleep during the drive! When we got there we saw that it would be a great place to camp, but wasn't really a great place to take little kids for a day swim, so we turned around to go home. A few miles outside of Buena Vista they both woke up again, so we decided to stop at the river and let them play for a bit (since we'd gone through the trouble of putting them in swimsuits). Tommy is pretty brave in the water, so we think next summer it will be time to sign him up for swimming lessons. He has a pretty fun lifejacket (it's Batman!) and he's gotten pretty good at getting on his feet again when he stumbles in the water. He's growing up so fast!

Wading in the water

Tommy loved grabbing rocks and throwing them. His Daddy even showed him how to skip rocks (but he hasn't mastered that skill yet!)

Logan teaching Tommy how to "recover" (get back on his feet).

Check out my awesome swim wear! (I actually have a bathing suit on, you just can't see it).

Jack WAS with us during this outing--he just wasn't a big fan of the water, and kept trying to grab the camera when I went to take a picture of him. Trust me, though, he looks adorable in swim trunks!

Rockbridge County Fair

Sorry for the delay! I don't really have an excuse for not posting this earlier...I'm just lazy sometimes!

Last week we went with Nanna and Papa to the Rockbridge County Fair! We went last year and had a lot of fun, so we went on the first day it was open this year (it turns out that was the coolest of the days it was open, so I'm really glad that's when we went!) We bought Tommy one of those "all-you-can-ride" bracelets, and he had a lot of fun going on rides! He's so tiny, though, it was hard watching him get on things all by himself. Next year Jack will be able to go too (although he'll still need adult help), so it'll be much more spendy....sad how that happens. Anyway, it was worth the trip this year! Tommy rode the camel again, and since I wasn't 9 months pregnant this time I got to ride it, too! We also rode the ferris wheel together, which he thought was fun (although he didn't feel like showing it with a smile). Tommy's going through a funny phase now where he doesn't want to smile at things, even though you know he's happy and excited. So different from last year! Boys are funny.

Anywho, enjoy the pictures!

The boys with their spoils: Nanna won the Nemo for Tommy,
and Daddy (Logan) won the dog for Jack.

Tommy's last ride on the merry-go-round!
Last year he couldn't stop smiling. This year...not so much.

He LOVED the big slide!

It was so weird/heartbreaking to watch him go up the HUGE stairs of the slide all by himself!
I was convinced he was going to trip and fall, but he made it safely.

One of the few pictures of Tommy smiling. He saw Nanna and couldn't help himself!

His first ride on the merry-go-round. I think he takes after his daddy, don't you?

Camel!

Jack was GREAT at the fair! He would get so excited watching Tommy on the rides, and he'd laugh and clap and just enjoyed himself!

Top 5 Tommy Phrases of the Week

5. Where's Buzz and Woody?
(answer: in the VCR. Literally. He stuck his miniature figures in there.)

4. Ew! Yuck! My goodness! My goodness!
(imagine this with emphatic head motions and a sense of disgust.)

3. What are you talkin' about, Mommy?
(Sounding very confused, with a shrug of the shoulders.)

2. To ansidity, and BEYOND!!!!
(running around the room with his Buzz Lightyear held high in the air. Someday he'll learn how to say "infinity.")

1. You can't DO this to me!
(Not sure where he got this one, but it was very hard not to crack up when he said it!!!)

Casting Call

I have often mentioned on this blog Tommy's "entourage" of stuffed animals/toys. Lately it's been very transient, with new toys introduced each day and old favorites being suddenly ignored in the toy bin.

Lately Tommy has been favoring his piggy bank, something that Logan and I find very amusing. Tommy has little (if any) understanding of the purpose of money, but he finds it very exciting to put pennies in his piggy bank, and seems to be okay with the fact that he never sees them again. One day I found that Tommy had gotten into my purse, taken out all the loose change, and deposited it in his piggy bank. He'd be in trouble if it wasn't so doggone cute.

Another favorite travel companion has been his brontosaurus dinosaur toy. As a plastic toy, it's very hardy, and he takes it in the bath, in the car, and to the store. Luckily it fits in my purse, unlike the piggy bank.

Last night Tommy came up to me with one of his horse toys and said "Bullseye!" I thought it was cute, but it wasn't until I saw it at the breakfast table this morning with the dilapidated Mr. Potato Head (who's missing almost all his pieces), the dinosaur, the Piggy bank, and a "car" (it's actually a train, but he calls it a car) that everything started making sense...

Blooming

I just wanted to share a few pictures of the flowers blooming in our garden! I think they're pretty :-)

Playtime

It's been interesting adjusting to Logan's night-shift schedule. He leaves the house around 9:30pm, and gets back at around 8:20am. I like to clean at night after he leaves so the house looks good when he gets back (I figure that makes it feel a little better getting home, instead of feeling like he's walking into a chaotic mess). We'll see how long the resolve lasts, but I think it will at least live through the next week of night shifts.

When he gets home in the morning the boys are already up and eating breakfast, so I usually make him something to eat, he tells me what happened during the night (some amusing stories there!) and then he goes to sleep and the boys and I start our day. I figure it's pretty much the same as if he was at work, except I try not to go into our bedroom very often. The boys and I have gotten into a daily pattern of sorts, mixed with errands, eating, and some Kipper on Netflix. The balance seems pretty good.

The strange part is that when Logan has a day off....it feels like Saturday! I feel like I had two Saturdays last week, but neither one was on the actual day of the week. There's just something about having both Logan and I home during the morning hours that makes it feel like a weekend.

During our first "Saturday" this week, we decided to hook up the sprinkler in the backyard for Tommy to run through! He loved it, and would have no doubt played in it all day. Josh Cooper came over, but he wasn't very fond of it, so he and Tommy went and played with sidewalk chalk instead.

Tommy, in love with the sprinkler

Josh...not in love with the sprinkler

On our second "Saturday" we decided to take the boys to Wood Creek park in Lexington, which was really fun. It was a wonderful temperature this week, warm but with a breeze, so it felt really good to get outside and out of the house! Diego went, too, and he REALLY liked getting out and about!

Despite the serious looks on Logan's face in these pictures, we had lots of fun! It's nice to go out on a "Saturday."

On a funny side note, while we were at the park (which is next to Wood Creek) Logan happened to look in the bushes, and he saw a bike that had been reported missing that week! Since he had been the one to take the report, he recognized the bike, so he called the officer on duty and they came and got it. It was fun to see him interacting with his coworkers :-)
